Omarunui Landfill - Education & Office Space

- In early 2021 Createus Group worked with Hastings District Council, to design a new education and admin space to site within the Omarunui Landfill. Designed as a hub for sustainable education for the community, the centre offers a large open collaborative space, with a breakout meeting room to be used by either incoming groups or staff. Staff offices, bathroom facilities and a kitchenette. A covered verandah overlooking to hill top allows visitors and staff to spill outside overlooking the workings of the landfill site. Employing recycled materials destined for landfill where allowable, the centre serves as a space to encourage waste discussion and sustainable behavior. Its placement situated overlooking the landfill site, reserves to visually reinforce the consequences of consumption, as visitors look over the daily operations at the landfill.
